About This Project
Primary school is the beginning. GreenHill Secondary School ensures it is never the end.
GreenHill Secondary School is one of the most transformative projects in Beacon Child Africa’s long-term vision for the GreenHill community. The project aims to extend the educational journey already established at GreenHill Community School, creating a complete learning pathway from Nursery through Senior 6.
For many children in rural Uganda, completing primary education does not guarantee the opportunity to continue learning. GreenHill Secondary School will remove one of the biggest barriers facing rural students by providing accessible, quality secondary education within a community they know and trust.
The school will create a seamless transition from primary to secondary education, allowing children to continue developing academically, socially, and personally without leaving their communities prematurely.
The project will provide:
- Secondary education from Senior 1 to Senior 6.
- Learning opportunities for students aged 13 to 19.
- A purpose-built secondary school facility.
- A long-term pathway from early childhood education to secondary completion.
The Challenge
Why This Project Matters Now
The transition from primary to secondary education remains one of the biggest challenges facing children in rural Uganda. Many students complete primary school but are unable to continue their education due to barriers beyond their control.
The Primary-to-Secondary Dropout Crisis
Secondary schools are often located far away from rural communities, forcing children to travel long distances or relocate for boarding. For many families, the costs of transport, accommodation, school requirements, and daily expenses make secondary education inaccessible.
Children who have worked hard to complete primary education are often forced to end their academic journey before reaching their full potential.
The Gender Dimension
Girls face additional challenges during the transition to secondary school. Early marriage, teenage pregnancy, household responsibilities, and social attitudes that prioritise boys’ education can prevent many girls from continuing their studies.
Creating accessible secondary education within the community will help provide girls with greater opportunities to complete their education and pursue their goals.
The Cost of Lost Education
When children leave school after primary education, the impact affects not only the individual child but also their families and communities.
Secondary education provides access to skilled employment, higher education, entrepreneurship opportunities, and meaningful participation in society. Ensuring children continue their education creates benefits that extend across generations.
What We Are Building
GreenHill Secondary School will be a purpose-built secondary education facility designed to support students from Senior 1 through Senior 6.
The project will include:
Permanent Secondary Classrooms
Modern classrooms designed to provide a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for secondary students.
Science, Technology and Vocational Laboratories
Specialised laboratories connected to the GreenHill Skills and Computer Lab, allowing students to develop scientific knowledge, digital skills, and practical abilities.
Secondary School Library
A dedicated library equipped with secondary-level learning resources to support research, reading, and academic development.
Qualified Teaching Staff
Recruitment of qualified and experienced secondary school teachers who will provide quality education, mentorship, and guidance.
Boarding Facilities
A boarding facility will provide access for students from more remote communities who may not otherwise be able to attend secondary school.
Sports and Recreation Facilities
Facilities that support physical activity, teamwork, creativity, and overall student wellbeing.
Extended School Feeding Programme
The school feeding initiative will continue into secondary education, ensuring students have the nutrition needed to remain healthy and focused on learning.
Our Goals
GreenHill Secondary School aims to achieve:
- More than 200 students enrolled in the first year.
- More than 50% female student enrolment.
- A complete Senior 1 to Senior 6 education cycle.
- A guaranteed secondary school place for all GreenHill primary graduates.
These goals will create a sustainable education pathway that allows children to progress from early learning through secondary completion.

GreenHill Secondary School is the next step in building a complete education ecosystem within the GreenHill community.
The project builds upon the foundation created through GreenHill Community School and will be strengthened by other Beacon Child Africa initiatives, including the School Feeding Initiative, Mobile Health Clinic, and GreenHill Skills and Computer Lab.
The journey begins with creating a strong primary school foundation, providing essential health and nutrition support, and equipping children with practical skills. The secondary school will then provide the next stage of growth, allowing students to continue their education within a familiar and supportive environment.
This is a long-term investment in children, families, and the future of the community. By creating a complete education pathway, GreenHill Secondary School will help ensure that primary education is not the end of a child’s journey but the beginning of greater opportunities.
