The Child Skills Empowerment Programme equips children and adolescents in rural Uganda with practical digital, vocational, and life skills that prepare them for future opportunities. Through community-based training centres, mentorship, and hands-on learning, we help young people build confidence, discover their abilities, and develop skills needed for employment, entrepreneurship, and economic independence.
The Challenge
For many children in rural Uganda, completing school is only the first step toward a secure future. Without practical and employable skills, many young people struggle to access economic opportunities in an increasingly digital and competitive world.
Rural communities often have limited access to technology, vocational training, and career development opportunities compared to urban areas. This creates a growing skills gap that affects young people’s ability to compete and succeed.
Girls and young women experience additional challenges, including limited access to technology, social barriers that discourage participation in technical fields, and fewer female role models in skilled professions. Without targeted support, many talented young people risk being left behind.
Our Goals
The Child Skills Empowerment Programme focuses on measurable outcomes that help children become future-ready.
Our goals include:
- Training more than 30 children annually through practical skills programmes.
- Offering more than 10 digital and vocational skills that match future opportunities.
- Achieving at least 50% girls participation across all training sessions.
- Establishing more than three community-based skills centres to expand access to training.
Through these efforts, we are building pathways that allow children and young people to develop confidence, creativity, and skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Who We Serve
The programme supports children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years, with training designed according to their age, interests, and level of development.
Children Aged 6 to 12
Younger children receive foundational digital literacy training, including basic computer and tablet skills. These early learning experiences help build curiosity, confidence, and familiarity with technology.
Adolescents Aged 13 to 17
Older adolescents participate in advanced vocational training, entrepreneurship education, and future-focused skills development that prepare them for employment or self-employment opportunities.
Girls in Technology
We create safe and supportive learning spaces where girls can explore digital skills, develop confidence, and pursue opportunities in technology-related fields. The programme actively targets 50% girls participation across all training activities.
What We Do
The Child Skills Empowerment Programme provides practical digital literacy and vocational training for children and adolescents in partner communities. Through after-school and weekend training centres equipped with tablets and computers, learners gain access to technology education alongside hands-on skills development.
Beyond technical training, we provide life skills coaching that helps children improve communication, problem-solving, financial management, and decision-making abilities. Older adolescents are connected with local mentors and role models who inspire them and demonstrate possible career pathways within their communities.
Our approach combines practical skills, personal development, and mentorship to help young people prepare for a changing world.

Computer and Tablet Literacy
Children learn basic computer operations and digital skills that help them confidently interact with technology.

Career Awareness
We organize career sessions and community skills fairs that expose children to different opportunities and pathways.
